“When something bad happens, you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or let it strengthen you.”
It is difficult to put feelings like this into words. Most people don’t know what to say.
For those of you who don’t know, fifty people, including the perpetrator, were shot and killed in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida over the weekend. It was a targeted attack, murdering innocent people because of who they loved. In addition, Christina Grimmie, a YouTuber and musician, was shot and killed while signing autographs after a concert.
When I heard about these attacks, I was afraid. I began to see the world we live in as a fear-inducing, dangerous place.
The day that we accept this world as a dangerous, evil place is the day that it becomes one.
The good outweighs the evil in this world. While the evil exists in far too large of a capacity, the strength and love that pours out of our hearts in the face of tragedy is what will get us through. In response to this weekend’s events, millions of people came together in support of the victims and their families. The love that we share for one another will always outweigh the hatred.
That does not mean that nothing needs to be done. This world has a lot of work to do and it’s not going to be easy. With that being said, we all can do something about it.
Every U.S. citizen needs to step into that booth and vote. If you want things to change, take thirty minutes and educate yourself on the issues, the candidates, and your own beliefs and vote in November.
We can all agree that this tragedy is painful beyond words. But I would like to share a video with you, posted by YouTuber Tyler Oakley. Tyler shared many different thoughts and perspectives on the issue that are important to hear.
