June 2016

Summer is here and it’s fierce. The season has its own atmosphere. The world seems carefree and full of possibilities. It’s also the time for sun, sun, sun. To go along with all of that, here are a few things I’ve been loving throughout the month of June.

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara – $30

My go-to item during this time of year is mascara. The summer means sweating, swimming, and sunning. I tend to go light on, or even skip, the face makeup on summer weekends. But mascara is one thing I always reach for, no matter what time of year. It brings out your eyes and makes you look more awake. But after years of using drugstore mascaras, I became discouraged. My favorites continued to be discontinued and I was unable to find replacements. My best friend recommended the Dior Overcurl. I trust her judgment, so I walked into Sephora and picked one up. I asked if I could try the mascara, but the woman said the brush is really the secret to the mascara, so I would be unable to get the full effect. Since Sephora has such a great return policy, I got it. This mascara is fantastic. One coat does more for my lashes than five coats of the drugstore mascaras I had been using. If you want my opinion, it’s definitely worth the investment.

Aquaphor Lip Repair + Protect SPF 30 – $4

I got a sunburn on my lips a few years back and I’ve been haunted ever since. It was one of the most painful (and not to mention visually obvious) sunburns I have ever had. While winter brings its own burdens to your lips, they still need protection in the summer. I always have an SPF lip balm with me. This way, my lips stay hydrated and I avoid the a nasty sunburn. Aquaphor has been a staple in my purse for a year or so and it’s there to stay.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Soft & Gentle) – $32

This is one product that you will {almost} never run out of. You need a minimal amount, making it last for the long-term. It’s a great highlighter, adding a little bit of color and shimmer without turning you into a disco ball.  The shimmer used in this product is not glitter. I have never experienced finding large chunks of glitter in the product or on my face. It’s a smooth powder that glides on nicely, giving me a natural glow in the sunlight. I use an angled brush, apply this to my cheek bones, and I’m good to go.

NARS Bronzer (Laguna) – $39

The {not-so-friendly} sun is here to say hello. If you’re like me, you don’t spend a lot of time with our newest friend. However, I still like to get that summer glow. Bronzer is key. As someone with extremely fair skin, it can be difficult to find a bronzer that will not make me look orange. But I think NARS Laguna is famous for a reason. I use a large powder brush, sweeping the bronzer onto my cheekbones {usually instead of blush}, on the edges of my forehead, and down my nose. Focus on the places where the sun will naturally tan your face. And don’t forget to blend it down your neck, trust me.
