February 2017

Surprise! I’m back!

I sincerely apologize for my extended absence. My life has changed a lot since the last time we spoke, and I will catch you up as we go along. But for now, it’s March 1st, which means it’s time for a monthly favorites. Here are a few of my favorite things from this month (p.s. can we just talk about how beautiful the weather has been lately? I wouldn’t mind winter if it stayed like this).

Girl Online: Going Solo by Zoë Sugg

2017 has been a positive year for me in terms of reading. Since being in college (and because I’m an English major), I rarely have time for just-for-fun reading. Any time I have time to read, it is for one of my classes. However, this semester is the first in a long time I am not taking any literature courses, only writing courses, making reading for fun much more appealing! One of the first ones I wanted to tackle was the third Girl Online book. While these books might be targeted below my age-range, I always think it is important to support the people you enjoy watching on YouTube, and Zoë Sugg is one of my favorites. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Penny Porter and I am proud of Zoë for what she has accomplished with this trilogy! Plus, it looks like Ollie likes it too. But more on him in a minute.

Lavender Vanilla Candle by Bath and Body Works

I have always been a huge candle lover, especially Bath and Body Works. For Christmas, my parents were generous enough to get me a handful of new scents to try from Bath and Body, one of which was Lavender Vanilla. Normally, I reach for foodie scents (i.e. cupcakes, chocolate, marshmallow, etc.) so lavender vanilla was out of my comfort zone. But after burning it once, I was hooked. It is such a relaxing scent, making my entire apartment feel like a spa. It’s also a subtle scent, so you won’t have to worry about getting headaches after burning it for too long.

I’ve started taking guitar lessons this year, trying to get back into music. In high school, music was a huge part of my life and the person that I was. I would love to get back to that passion. My guitar lessons are really teaching me a lot about guitar that, in the eight years I have been playing, I never knew. I am thankful for the opportunity to learn more about my own instrument.

Bath Bombs

Bath bombs are a popular craze right now, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon. I’ve never been a huge fan of taking baths in the past, but I’ve found that they can be far more relaxing and nice than I anticipated. Bath bombs are just a fun way to add color to your bath as well as moisturizers for your skin. The one pictured above is the French Lavender from Whole Foods (I have yet to try this particular one, but I’ve tried another from Whole Foods and really liked it).

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has many different uses from cooking to moisturizer to a healing agent. My favorite use for coconut oil is actually as a leave-in conditioner. It is so nourishing for your hair, and I love the fact that it is all-natural. You don’t have to worry about putting all of these foreign chemicals and sulfates into your hair. Just be careful not to use too much of it, otherwise your hair will turn out to be extremely greasy.

I have been addicted to the TV show Friends this last month. My mom recommended it to me (thanks, Mom!) but it took me a while to get into it. I kept it on in the background, and by the time it got to the second season, I was completely hooked. I am on the last season right now (no spoilers, please) and I’m dreading the day I finish the series.

Last but definitely not least, Ollie. Oliver (otherwise known as “Ollie”) is definitely my favorite of this month’s favorites. The best of the best. In January, I began fostering for my local shelter. It was such a rewarding experience that I will definitely continue someday. At the end of January, I picked up this little cutie (at the time, nameless) to foster. He was a feral kitten, about six weeks old at the time, that needed socialization. He was petrified of people. He spent the first week sleeping behind my toilet, gently hissing at me any time I even looked in his direction. He has come a long way in the last month and I am so proud of his progress. After naming him and spending weeks of deliberation, I decided to adopt him permanently. He is my best little buddy, greeting me every time I walk in my front door. I’m so thankful to have him in my life. He has truly changed it for the better, helping me in so many ways. I encourage you to foster or adopt if you can! It is so rewarding and I have no regrets about my decision.

Thank you all for reading and I am so sorry for my disappearing act! I’m back and ready to create a lot of fresh content for you all!

What are some of your favorites for the month of February? Let me know!
