February 2016

In an attempt to focus on the positivity in my life, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite things throughout the month of February. I discovered some of these things prior to February, but this list is a compilation of some of the things that I’ve grown a new love and appreciation for throughout the month.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – $12

If you had asked me what my opinion of this cleanser was when I first started using it, I would’ve warned you against it. I spent the first few days looking like a Dalmatian. However, learning from experience, a lot of cleansers have a tendency to break me out at first as they bring my impurities to the surface to clean out my pores. I gave it a shot, promising myself that I would continue to use the cleanser for at least two weeks before giving up on it. After about five or six days, my skin began to clear up and look even better than it did before I started using it. Moral of the story: give your cleansers a chance to clean out your system before you throw them in the bin.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream – $15

I know, I know. Two Cetaphil products in one favorites post? Well, this moisturizing cream is one that I have been using for years. I started using it back at the beginning of my high school career, so it’s been at least six or seven years. I haven’t had a single patch of dry skin on my face since I started using this moisturizer. While I probably would not recommend this for someone with oily skin, if you have dry skin, give this one a try. It’s a thick moisturizing cream that soaks into your skin without clogging your pores. It genuinely makes my skin feel moisturized rather than greasy. Plus, this tub lasts me about six months, saving me a lot of cash.

Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Extra Penetrating Oil – $8

This is another product that I’ve been using for a while, but as the winter months have taken a toll on my hair, I’ve noticed a significant need for this. I put about a quarter-size dollop of this oil throughout the ends of my hair right after I get out of the shower, running it through with my fingers. I love the feeling that this gives me. Even though it is an oil, my hair absorbs it and allows it to soak in and just make my hair feel silky smooth and soft. I also use this oil in the place of hair gel. My hair holds curl pretty well since it naturally has some wave to it, so I never use hairspray or anything to hold my curls in place. However, when I give myself tighter curls, I like for them to have a sharper texture. Once I finish curling my hair, I’ll take a dime-size drop of this oil and run it through my dry hair. It just gives my hair a nice texture and definition that I haven’t been able to find with any other product. Be careful not to use too much when applying this to dry hair, though, or your hair will look like a grease-ball.

Blistex Medicated Lip Balm SPF 15 – $3

Sticking with the theme of the drying winter, this is a tip that I got from my dad. When I was younger, I mentioned to him that I had been struggling with chapped lips, especially throughout the winter months. He told me that every single night before he goes to sleep, he applies this medicated Blistex to his lips. It soaks in throughout the night and he wakes up every morning with soft, moisturized lips. It works wonders. Ever since then, I’ve been doing the same thing. Every night before I sleep, I apply a layer of this to my lips. I also apply it in the morning while doing my makeup. I rarely struggle with chapped lips anymore and I attribute it to this product and method. I tend to carry a stick of this lip balm around with me as well just in case my lips need some extra moisture thorughout the day.

As some of you may know, I love decorating my planner. It functions not only as a hobby, but it motivates me to open up my planner and look at it, which helps me actually get things done. Recently, I’ve fallen completely in love with the Etsy shop LibbieandCo. Her stickers are well-priced and high quality. They’re easily removable and repositionable, even days after being put down. Her customer service is great, too!

“Stitches” by Shawn Mendes

This song has been on the radio a lot lately. I will admit, I wasn’t a huge fan at first, but something about it has had me in a different place lately. It’s such a catchy song that makes you want to get up and dance without being an obvious dance-song. It just puts a fun energy throughout the room that makes everyone want to have a good time.

What are some of your favorite things from this month?
