“Family is where life begins and love never ends.”
Every semester, my school hosts a family weekend. Parents and other family members are encouraged to come to campus and spend the weekend with the students. So far, my parents have come to every family weekend during my college career, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
From dinner with my boyfriend’s parents to lacrosse games and community service, I was able to spend a lot of quality time with my parents this weekend. We did a community service project putting together meals for children in the area. It felt great to give back and spend some time in our weekend doing something good for the community and something outside ourselves. I’m fortunate to have the life that I do, so being able to contribute to positivity in other people’s lives was a great feeling.
My parents and I don’t have to be going to some fancy event or eating an expensive dinner to have a good time. During the weekend, we also enjoy having down time. We spent a few hours on Saturday sitting in my apartment in silence, all of us doing our work. It was a quiet understanding that we were spending time together without needing to say a word. I think that’s the sign of a wonderful family dynamic that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
While my parents spend a lot of the weekend driving to come see me, I’m grateful for every second I get to spend with them. I don’t get to see them a lot. My university is pretty far from my hometown, so being able to spend a weekend with them is such a wonderful experience. I cherish all the moments I have with them when they are here and I’m thankful for the time and energy that they spend getting here.
A special thank you to my mom and dad for everything this weekend. I love you both. 💕
